Risk Management Scholarship Opportunity from NAMIC for the 2014-2015 academic year (due March 1, 2014)

The NAMIC Merit Society Scholarship Program is intended for undergraduate students pursuing a degree related to the insurance industry. To be eligible, the students must be citizens of the United States or Canada and plan to find permanent employment in North America upon graduation. Two students will be chosen for a one-time $1,000.00 check to assist in the funding of their studies. The monies will be forwarded directly to the school at which the student attends. In order to qualify for the scholarship, students must comply with all phases of the application process.

Students must submit their application postmarked no later than March 1, 2014 to NAMIC Merit Society, c/o Tonya Suits, 3601 Vincennes Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46268 or emailed to tsuits. Applications postmarked after this date will not be considered. No incomplete applications will be considered. Applications will be reviewed and award recipient(s) will be notified by mail by May 1, 2014. Announcement of scholarship recipients will be made at the annual NAMIC Convention each year.

Gamma Iota Sigma Meeting today 5-6p.m. in Cashion 306

Our guest speaker for today’s meeting will be Mrs. Adrian Johnson. She is the DFW Regional Claims Manager for Federated Mutual Insurance Company and will be speaking today in Cashion 306 from 5-6p.m.

We will have more membership forms at this meeting for those of you interested in joining Gamma. If you picked one up last time, do not forget to bring your completed form to this meeting along with the $30 membership dues check made out to Baylor University.

Today’s featured speaker is Mr. Tony Gonzalez. Mr. Gonzalez is Texas State Marketing Director for UPC Insurance and President of the Insurance Council of Texas Education Foundation.

Mr. Gonzalez will discuss career opportunities in the insurance industry. Specifically, he will discuss the skill sets that are needed and focus attention upon the types of (non-sales) jobs which are available for college graduates with interests in marketing, underwriting, claims, product management, actuarial, finance, and accounting.

Heart of Texas CPCU Society Chapter Scholarship Program – Spring 2014 Semester only (Deadline: November 15)

The Heart of Texas CPCU Society Chapter is pleased to announce the availability of a one-time $1500 scholarship for a Baylor University or University of Mary Hardin Baylor student. This scholarship opportunity is open to sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate students with a major in insurance, risk management, or business. The applicant must have a minimum 2.75 GPA (4.0 scale) and must not be receiving full reimbursement of educational expenses from an external source, such as an employer.
